I am looking for information about my 4th great grandfather, Thomas Munro. He and his wife, Jean Grant, had a daughter Helen in 1782, who was christened in Inverness. I cannot find any marriage record for Thomas and Jean, nor birth records for either of them, but assume that they were born somewhere between 1740 and 1760, possibly earlier, in Inverness or Ross and Cromarty.
Thomas was , apparently, according to a distant relative's family history records, a wealthy merchant, of some importance, who was a ?burgher/? of Inverness and who, after his daughter Helen had married an Englishman ( someone Thomas considered to be below the family socially) and had lost her position as lady in waiting at the royal court of George 3rd( or 4th) because of her association with her future husband, disinherited her and there was no more contact between Helen and her parents, despite Helen having tried unsuccessfully to reconcile with her father ( letters were always returned unopened).
I am not sure when Thomas or Jean died ( whether in Scotland or England). After Helen died, her husband destroyed her identity papers etc. despite Helen requesting ( when dying) her husband to take the papers to her father and ask for financial help for their 4 children , which was never done. It appears that Thomas Munro died intestate and his estate was placed in Chancery.
If anyone knows anything about this family, or has any hints on how to go about finding

I have learned that my gr grandmother Cathrine Munro emigrated to Aus in 1842.Her father George Munro was a Coachman before he left Edinburgh. He was born in Edinburgh 18 Feb 1807 to parents Daniel Munro and Jane Graham. Daniel was born abt 1759 and parents were William Munro, a native of Rosskeen, and Margaret McDonald. There is a suggestion that William Munro became a soldier in the Edinburgh City Guard.
This is as much as I have. If anyone can enlighten me further about my Munro line, I would be most grateful

Hi I would like my name and email address to be placed on the "lookinf for your munro roots" page along with the following message, thanks.
I am looking for anyone who may have information on the parents of David Munro born in Sin or Dornoch, Sutherlandshire in 1812. I know he died after 1870 as I have found him in the 1870 census. I believe he may have been a blacksmith and married Margaret MacKenzie however this is unclear at this stage. I believe his parents may possibly be named William Munro and Janet Bain but am not sure on this either. Thanks in advance for any info you may have!
